Riva del Garda... domenica 19 luglio 2009... Il responso della Medal Race ai fini della classifica finale e' il seguente: Campione del mondo 2009 della classe 49er sono Nathan Outteridge e Iain Jensen (AUS 1) Ognuno dei 10 equipaggi della Medal Race comunque ha dato il meglio di se' tanto e vero che all' inizio della prova finale almeno i primi cinque avevano concrete possibilita' di salire sul podio più alto. Nella classifica generale finale John Pink e Rick Peacock (GBR 1082) sono secondi e sopravanzano i fratelli Pietro e Gianfranco Sibello (ITA 4 - Sez. Vela Fiamme Gialle) che hanno gli stessi punti (74) per ragione del miglior risultato della Medal Race. Alle loro spalle Stevie Morrison e Ben Rhodes (GBR 2), Nico Delle Karth e Nikolaus Leopold Resch (AUT 10), Chris Draper e Peter Greenhalgh (GBR 1097), Peter e Soren Hansen (DEN 982), Manu Dyen e Stefane Christidis (FRA 1070), Paul Campell-James e Mark Asquith (GBR 9) e Iker Martinez de Lizarduy e Xavier Fernandez (ESP 7). Ben sette le nazioni che hanno avuto accesso alla Medal Race in un Mondiale che ha attirato a Riva bel 89 equipaggi in rappresentanza di 23 nazioni. La giornata si era aperta con la discesa in acqua di tutte le tre flotte Gold, Silver e Bronze per disputare le ultime due prove delle Regate Finali. Una volta concluse e' stato possibile definire il raggruppamento di equipaggi della flotta Gold che poteva accedere alla Medal Race. Alla fine di questa sei giorni di regate il podio della flotta Silver e' così composto: 1° Peter Burling e Blair Tuke (NZL 1101), 2° Tobias Scadewaldt e Hannes Baumann (GER 961), 3° Marcus Baur e Wolf Jeschonek (GER 996). Nella flotta Bronze sono primi Jan Hauke Erichsen e Hans Jakob Dethleffsen (GER 914), secondi james Peters e Dicken Maclean (GBR 940), terzi Matthieu Dubreucq e Tej Trevor Parekh (CAN 946). Alle ore 18.00 ha preso inizio sotto il tendone della Centro Congressi di Riva la premiazione dei vincitori delle tre flotte. In apertura hanno preso la parola il Consigliere Antonio Micillo ringraziando tutti coloro che ha permesso di celebrare questo fantastico evento, quindi il Presidente della Fraglia Amos Vacondio, visibilmente soddisfatto per il successo della manifestazione. La cerimonia di chiusura ha avuto inoltre l'onore della presenza della Vice-Presidente del Comitato Esecutivo ISAF, Teresa Lara, ospite in questi giorni del Circolo, che ha parlato alla platea di velisti e appassionati presente in un numero non inferiore alle 500 persone. Entusiasta è stato anche l'intervento del Presidente della Classe 29er Gerardo Seeliger che ha voluto consegnare al Presidente Amos Vacondio, alla Segretaria della Classe 49er e 29er Jerelin Biehl e a Marzia Busana in rappresentanza della Segreteria della Fraglia un prezioso omaggio gentilmente offerto dalla Seiko, sponsor delle due classi. La cerimonia di chiusura del Mondiale 49er ha coinciso infatti anche con la cerimonia di apertura del Mondiale 29er in programma da oggi al 25 luglio. Ampio spazio, con comunicati, foto e video, e' stato dato per l'intera settimana sul sito della Fraglia Vela Riva (www.fragliavelariva.it), sul sito della FIV, sul sito della classe 49er ( www.49er.org ) e sulla Web Tv Sail.rev (www.sailrev.tv). L'interesse dei Media è stato altissimo e ha coinvolto anche la redazione di Icarus, che ha ripreso la manifestazione per conto di Sky, e la fotografa inglese Ingrid Abery (www.hotcapers.com) trasferitasi per l'occasione a Riva in questi giorni. Riva del Garda...Sunday, July 19, 2009...With Medal Race results weighing in, the final rankings are now as following: Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen (AUS 1) are 2009 World Champions (AUS 1). This is indeed newsworthy, as this 49er Gold Group's competition was so tight that the outcome of this Championship was difficult to predict. Before the final race began, any one of the five top-ranking crews might have been able to arrive at that prestigious top step on the winner's podium. And all of the Gold Group sailors definitely displayed their personal best. John Pink and Rick Peacock (GBR 1082) are second. They were able to surpass brothers Pietro and Gianfranco Sibello (ITA 4 - Sez. Vela Fiamme Gialle), who have the same number of scorepoints (74), due to their excellent performance in the Medal Race. Awards ceremonies for all 3 fleets began at 6 pm this evening under Centro Congressi di Riva's tent. Antonio Micillo, member of the Board of Directors of Fraglia Vela Riva, opened by expressing gratitude towards all those who contributed to the success of this fantastic event. Fraglia President Amos Vacondio, himself visibly satisfied with the event's outcome, spoke next. Adding to the international atmosphere of this year's Championship, and especially to its closing ceremony, was Teresa Lara, the next speaker. Ms. Lara, Vice-President of ISAF's Executive Committee, addressed the 500-plus audience filled with sailing enthusiasts. She has also been a Guest of Honor at Fraglia in these days. And enthusiasm for the world of international regatta sailing continued as Teresa's speech was followed by that of Gerardo Seeliger, President of the 29er Class. Mr. Seeliger presented precious gifts (donated by event-sponsor Seiko) to Fraglia President Amos Vacondio, to Jerelin Biehl (Secretary of both the 49er and of the 29er Classes), and to Marzia Busana, who accepted the gifts on behalf of the Fraglia Vela Riva Secretary Office. In fact, the 2009 49er World Championship's closing ceremony coincided with the opening ceremony of the 29er World Championship, which runs until July 25th.
